The Situation
Every portfolio company reports differently. Different ERPs, different charts of accounts, different definitions of recurring revenue, different ways of calculating EBITDA, different reporting cadences. The investment team spends days each month normalising data before they can analyse anything.
The pack to the LPs is built by hand. The pack to the investment committee is built by hand. The conversations with portco CFOs start from “what does this number actually mean?” rather than from “what are we going to do about it?”
And the signals that matter — a working capital deterioration, a margin slip, a churn uptick — surface late. By the time they reach the investment manager’s screen, they’ve already been a problem for a quarter.
What we build
An agent that connects to each portfolio company’s finance and operational systems, normalises the data against a common framework, and produces a single portfolio view.
The normalisation layer is the work. Each portco’s revenue gets mapped to a common definition. Each portco’s EBITDA gets adjusted into a comparable view. Currency, period, and accounting-convention differences are resolved automatically, with the adjustments visible and auditable.
On top sits the dashboard the investment team actually uses: portfolio-level financials, per-portco financial and operational KPIs, trend signals, covenant tracking where relevant, and exception flags. The investment manager opens it on Monday morning and sees what changed across the portfolio over the weekend.
Where portcos already have strong CFOs, the agent reduces their reporting burden rather than adding to it — because it pulls from the systems they’re already running, not from new templates they have to fill in.
What you get
One portfolio view. Financials and KPIs from every operating company, in a common language, on a defined cadence. The conversation in the investment committee shifts from “what’s the number?” to “what are we going to do?”
Earlier signals. The deteriorations and improvements that used to surface in quarterly reviews surface in weekly snapshots.
Less manual work for the investment team and less reporting friction for portco CFOs. The same data feeds the LP pack, the IC pack, and the portco-level conversations.
A reporting infrastructure that scales with the next acquisition. Adding a new portco is configuration, not a project.
